Understand your eBay bulk-listing CSV errors — before you re-upload

Listing File Doctor checks your listing CSV and your upload error report, shows which row and SKU each problem belongs to, explains the likely cause in plain English, and lets you apply a few safe fixes.

Open the tool

Test version — not yet verified with real eBay files. So far it has only been tested with made-up (synthetic) files. Its reading of eBay templates and upload reports may be wrong, and it cannot promise that eBay will accept a file.

Not an official eBay tool

Listing File Doctor is an independent project. It is not made, endorsed or supported by eBay. eBay is a trademark of its respective owner. The tool cannot tell you whether eBay will accept a file — only eBay can.

Your files stay on your computer

Files are read and analysed inside your browser. They are not uploaded to any server, and the page is built so that it cannot make network requests (its Content-Security-Policy sets connect-src 'none').

You can check this yourself: open the tool, turn off your internet connection, and run a check — it still works. Developers can read the full source (index.html, app.js, core.js); there is no tracking or analytics code.

What it does

Reads messy CSV files correctly

Quoted values, commas and line breaks inside cells, different separators (comma, semicolon, tab), and common text encodings (UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1252; Shift_JIS by manual selection).

Finds common CSV problems

Blank or duplicate headers, rows with too many or too few columns, empty or duplicate SKUs, and odd prices or quantities (negative, text, currency symbols, decimal commas, scientific notation like 1E+3).

Reads your eBay result report

Matches each message to a row and SKU where it can, and tells you how confident the match is. Messages it does not recognise are labelled "not recognised" — it does not guess.

Explains and exports

Each finding has a "why this happens" and "how to fix it" note in English. Download the findings as a CSV, filter them by type, and search by SKU.

Safe fixes with a before/after view

Only three kinds of fixes are offered: trimming stray spaces, removing thousands separators like 1,234.50, and writing 5.0 as 5. Every fix keeps the number identical. Prices, quantities and SKUs are never changed any other way. Your original file is never modified.

Plain, beginner-friendly screen

Pick a file, click one button, read the list. A "Try with sample data" button shows how it works without using your own files.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool and choose your listing CSV (the file you uploaded or plan to upload in Seller Hub Reports).
  2. Optional: also choose the result / error report you received from eBay after the upload.
  3. Click Check my files. Read the findings; click any line for the cause and the fix.
  4. Optional: open Safe fixes & before/after, tick the changes you want, and download a corrected copy. Check it again in the tool before uploading to eBay.

What it does not do (yet)

Cost

The test version is free to use. No payment details are requested. Future pricing has not been decided.

Help us test it

If you sell on eBay and have run into bulk-upload (CSV) errors, your feedback would be very valuable: what errors you get, whether the explanations make sense, and what is missing. You do not need to share any file. If you choose to share one, please remove personal and confidential data first (see the checklist we will send you).

FAQ

Does it send my CSV anywhere?

No. Processing happens in your browser, and the page blocks network requests.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Open the page in a modern browser. If you received the tool as a ZIP file, unzip it and open index.html.

Will fixing everything it reports make my upload succeed?

Not necessarily. It finds general CSV problems and explains eBay's messages, but it cannot know every eBay rule.

Can it change my prices or quantities?

Only by safe reformatting (for example 1,234.50 → 1234.50, 5.0 → 5), where the number stays the same. You see a before/after table first and can untick any change. Risky cases are left for you to fix by hand.
